A beautiful life came to a peaceful close on September 14, 2026, when Sophia C. English transitioned into the presence of the Lord, departing this life from the comfort of her home. Born on January 30, 1930, in the close-knit community of Hagood-Horatio, South Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of Roland and Diane Gardener Canty. She was united in marriage to the late Marion English. Her legacy will be honored by her children, the branches of her family, other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Services will be held 2:00 P. M., Saturday, September 26, 2026 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Williams Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Brenda Davis, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 9250 Camden Highway 521 North, Rembert. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home 3270 Valencia Drive, Dalzell.
