Welcome to Williams Funeral Home

Like a beautiful rose blooming with grace, kindness, and love, God, in His infinite wisdom, chose to gather one of His most precious flowers. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, Bertha Mae Hammett Scarborough peacefully answered her Master's call and entered into eternal rest in Marietta, Georgia. A native of Lee County, South Carolina, Bertha was the beloved daughter of the late Albert and Doshia Hammett. She was raised in a close-knit family where faith, compassion, hard work, and integrity were the foundation of her life. She attended the public schools of Lee County before continuing her education at Claflin University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services (Social Work). Her education became the pathway to a life dedicated to serving others with excellence and unwavering compassion. Bertha did more than work as a social worker, she embraced it as her life's calling. For her, helping others was never simply a profession; it was a ministry of love. Throughout her distinguished career, and until her retirement from the Cobb County Health Department, she faithfully advocated for individuals and families in need. She was admired for her gentle spirit, genuine concern, and steadfast commitment to improving the lives of those she served. Her clients were never just names on a file, they became people she cared for wholeheartedly, and many remembered her as a source of hope during difficult seasons. Above all else, Bertha's greatest joy was her family. Her love for them knew no boundaries, and she gave of herself freely and unconditionally. She delighted in every family gathering, every conversation, every celebration, and every opportunity to encourage those she loved. Her warm smile, nurturing heart, thoughtful advice, and generous spirit made everyone feel welcomed and cherished. She believed that love was best demonstrated through service, sacrifice, and simply being present for those who mattered most. Her family was the center of her world, and she devoted herself completely to their happiness and well-being. Bertha leaves to cherish her beautiful legacy and precious memories, her loving and devoted husband, Levi Scarborough, Jr.; four brothers, Albert (Margaret) Hammett, Jr., Curtis (Patricia) Hammett, Billy Hammett, and Bernard (Ann) Hammett; and two loving sisters, Rosa H. Brunson and Octavia Benjamin. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Levi Scarborough, Sr.; three brothers-in-law, Michael (Marilyn) Scarborough, Christopher L. Scarborough, and Tavarres (Tonya) Scarborough; sister-in-law, Mazielle (Leroy) Hammett; and brother-in-law, Lionel (Catherine) Pack. Bertha also shared a uniquely special and treasured bond with her beloved Atlanta Cousin/Sisters, Lillie "Honey" Bridges, Ruby Jefferson, Janie Grundy, and Edna Zimmerman, whose love, laughter, and lifelong friendship held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her love, kindness, and unwavering support. Bertha was preceded in death by her loving parents, Albert and Doshia Hammett; three brothers, Leroy Hammett, Robert Hammett, and James "Coot" Hammett; one sister, Catherine Pack; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. Although our hearts grieve the loss of such a beautiful soul, we rejoice knowing that Bertha's faith has become sight. The loving rose that God planted on earth has now been transplanted into His heavenly garden, where she will bloom forever in His presence. Her legacy of compassion, selfless service, unwavering faith, and unconditional love will continue to blossom in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
