Vivian Harvin entered eternal life at the blessed age of 97, at his residence on Wednesday evening, February 18, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Sumter, SC on January 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Wesley and Polly Sumpter Harvin and widower of Elizabeth Benjamin Harvin of 71 years. He attended St. Michael School in Sumter County and was later drafted in the US Army where he received an honorable discharge. He had strong unwavering work ethics which led him to become an entrepreneur as a barber for over 50 years and built his barbershop, Cane Savannah Barber Shop, in the community in which he lived and served. He was also employed with Santee Print, Georgia Pacific and retired from Cresent Tools. He began his Christian journey at Saint Paul AME Church-Shaw, Sumter, where he was honored to serve as a class leader, steward and was named Father of the Church. His community affiliations were Past Master of Manchester Chapter Lodge #143 and a lifetime member of over 50 years. He was also a member of Manchester Chapter #152 Order of the Eastern Star, Wedgefield, South Carolina. Precious memories will be cherished by his family and a host of other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 3800 Wedgefield Road, Sumter. Celebration of Life services will be held 12:00 Noon, Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Saint Paul AME Church-Shaw, 1495 St. Paul Church Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Friendly J. Gadson, Pastor. Burial will follow in the Harvin Cemetery, Pinewood Road, Sumter.
