Mrs. Arthuree Johnson, daughter of the late Julia Bolden Pinckney Yates, and the late Arthur Pinckney was born August 2,1933 in Rembert, South Carolina. On Saturday, November 9, 2024, she transitioned to her new home. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized at Hopewell Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her health failed. Mrs. Johnson served as Vice President of the Usher Board, Treasurer of the Lady's Choir, Senior Missionary and Treasurer of Pastor's Aide. She was an advisor to the Sunday School Ministery, Jr Missionary, Jr Ushers, and Vacation Bible School. She participated on the Gospel and Lady's Choir. She also worked with different organizations within the community. She made sure everyone had a driver's license at 15 and a voter's registration card at the age of 18. She graduated from Providence School and dreamed of becoming a nurse, but God, marriage and motherhood had other plans for her. Affectionally called Ree, by her favorite father-in-law, Colin Johnson. She was married to late the Sammie Lee Johnson Sr and to this union seven children were born. She leaves to cherish her precious memories five sons and one daughter Sammie Lee (late Annie Mae J.) Johnson Jr of Sumter SC, Marilyn (Micheal) Thomas of Houston TX, Tommy (Marnita) Johnson of Richmond Hill GA, Donald Johnson Sr., Terry Johnson and Timothy Johnson all of Sumter SC; three sisters, Maggie (William) Sheppard of Sumter SC, Sadie Singleton of Columbia SC and Thelma Cookley of Philadelphia PA; four sisters-in-law, Olease McLean, Delores Pittaman and Ruby Johnson all of Brooklyn NY, Sarah Johnson of Queens, NY and one brother in-law, James Johnson of Sumter SC. 21 Grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Dean Johnson; one granddaughter, Denise Johnson Fields, six sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p. m., Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church USA, 3440 Ebenezer Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, Pastor. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church Yard Cemetery.
