Julia Pinckney Pettyjohn, affectionately known as “Sunshine, Shine or Aunt Shine,” was born April 9, 1931 in Sumter County to the late Arthur Pinckney Sr. and Julia Bolden Pinckney Yates. She departed this life on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Hopewell Baptist Church. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Upon graduation, she relocated to Philadelphia, PA, where she eventually met and was united in marriage to the late Johnny Pettyjohn. Her love of family brought her back home to South Carolina. She rejoined Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a member of the Missionary Ministry, Senior Choir and Pastor’s Aide Ministry. Her memories will be cherished by her siblings and a host of nieces, nephews and family. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, 3285 Peach Orchard Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Richard Addison, Pastor, Eulogist and the Rev. E. L. Sanders, Presiding. Burial will follow in the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is receiving relatives and friends from 3:00 – 6:00 p. m. at the home, 4620 Dawson Road, Rembert.
