
Terry Wayne Mathis, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Mathis, was born on June 4, 1962 in Sumter, SC. Terry entered into eternal rest on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. He was educated in Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School with the Class of 1980. After high school, he pursued a career in Brick Masonry and later earned his Master Brick Mason Certification. He was well known for his high quality of work around the Sumter community as well as the local military base. Terry loved to work and spend time with his grandchildren. Terry was also a master at the game of pool where he took on all challengers; no one stood a chance when he picked up his stick. Terry leaves to cherish his precious memories the mother of his four children, Ethel Glover, Annette Johnson (Jerome) of Brick New Jersey, Samantha McMillian (Demond) of Kansas City, Kansas, Sheral Glover and Terry Glover of Sumter SC. He also leaves his siblings, John (Shirley) Alexander of Riverdale GA, Willie Taylor of Dalzell SC, Alonza Whitaker and Bernard Mathis of Sumter SC, Reid Mathis of Charlotte N C, Patricia (Johnny) Smith of Lakeland, TN. Also, Sandra (Sandy) Peoples, Sabina Jones of Sumter SC; sister in-law, Georgia Whitaker Williams of St Petersburg FL; thirteen grandchildren; special nephew, Antonia Alexander of Sumter SC and a host of nieces and nephews along with two special nieces, Debar Whitaker and Abena Alexander, who were raised in the home. Services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 2:00 p m in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc, 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. J. Elbert Williams, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Mayesville, SC. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 1 Andrena Drive Sumter, SC.
