Jessie Mae Anderson passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024, in Sumter, at the age of 76. She was born on January 2, 1948, in Blackstone, Virginia, to Matthew Ward and Mabel Price Hardy, who preceded her in death. Jessie Mae grew up in a loving family in Toms River, New Jersey, where she formed lifelong bonds with her siblings. She was preceded in death by Florence Hardy, Johnnie Hardy, Gladys Hardy, and leaves behind 11 surviving siblings, James Price, Walter Price, Francis Anderson, Alberta Hardy, Thomas Hardy, William Hardy, Robert Hardy, Donald Hardy, Dorothy Hardy-Bivins, Rosemary Hardy and Betty Hardy-Bivins. Jessie Mae was employed at Food Town for 15 years, where she was known for her kindness, work ethic, and warm smile. Jessie Mae also served as an Usher at New Hope Baptist Church in South Toms River, NJ. Jessie Mae was the proud mother of Timothy Anderson, Hazel Anderson-Coly, and Charles Anderson who were her greatest joy. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to, Shaniiyka Anderson, Austin Floyd, Ainiah Floyd, Elijah Floyd, Mustapha Coly, Blessings Coly, Aiden Floyd and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Floyd and Ava Grace Polite. Jessie Mae’s life will be celebrated during a funeral service 2:30 p. m., Saturday, August 31, 2024 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Burial will follow in the Sumter Cemetery, 700 West Oakland Avenue, Sumter. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 17 Brogdon Street, Sumter.
