Carrie Sinkler-Parker age 80 of Alcolu, South Carolina was born January, 25, 1944. She was called from labor to reward July 2, 2024. She was the widow of the late Alphonzo A. Parker and daughter of the late Dawson C. Sinkler and Mamie Peterson Sinkler. Following a brief teaching career in Ellerbe, N.C. and Martinsville, Virginia, she returned to her native Clarendon County, S.C. and began a career in child and adult protective services for the South Carolina Dept. of Welfare, after which she became the associate state director for AARP and was a strong advocate for senior citizens, veterans, and adult care. Sinkler-Parker was a graduate of Barber-Scotia College, and she received a master’s degree in public health administration from the University of S.C. and she obtained a graduate certificate in gerontology. Throughout her life, Mrs. Parker was a member of various organizations and boards, which included: Red Hill Chapter #157 of the Order of Eastern Star, Life member of the National Council of Negro Women, State Forester Care Review, National Adult Day Services. She was a 1995 delegate to the White House Conference on Aging and in 1983 Barber-Scotia College named Carrie-Sinkler Parker National Alumnus of the Year. Left to cherish her beautiful life are her devoted sister in Christ, Frances Williams, her cousins; Ruby Little, Ga., Ida Little Pershay of Sumter and Maggie Fields of Baltimore, Md; her stepchildren, Alphonzo A. Parker Jr., Loretta (Peter) Parker-Alexandre and Carmen Parker McFadden of Charleston and Dr. Veronica G. Parker of Clemson; three grandchildren, Jamie Robert McFadden, Christopher Alphonzo McFadden and Laiya P. Belle Alexandre of Rock Hill; her in-laws; Josephine Pompey, Earline G. Howell and Samuel I. Green of Charleston; her godchildren, Micheal Witherspoon, Rashard Durant. Rechon Jenkins and Rev. Dr. Alice Ridgill and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p. m., Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Greenhill Missionary Baptist Church, 1260 Green Hill Church Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. Delbert H. Singleton, Pastor, Rev. Dr. Franklin Colclough, officiating. The Remains will be placed in the church at 2:30 p. m. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave from Williams Funeral Home at 2:00 p. m. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park, 2561 Cains Mill Road, Sumter.
