Purley Wilson, Jr. was born in Sumter on June 1, 1962 to the late Deacon Purley Wilson, Sr. and Annie Mae Wilson. Following graduation from Sumter High School in 1980, he furthered his education at Central Carolina Technical College in pursuit of becoming a Network Technician. “Brother”, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was employed by GTE/Verizon/Frontier for 39 years of service before retiring in 2020. His passion for working hard and providing for his family led him to return to work part time up until his untimely passing. At an early age, Purley was reared and later joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Bishopville. On April 30, 1988, he married the love of his life, Edrena B. Wilson and was blessed with five beautiful children. On Sunday, July 16, 2023, our hearts changed forever, when Purley suddenly slipped away from us. Brother was proceeded in death by his father, Deacon Purley Wilson, Sr. and one sister, Stephanie Wilson-Green. Purley leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 35 years, Edrena Wilson; his mother, Annie Mae Wilson; two daughters, Shane (Robert) Brooks of Suitland, MD, Shanice (Rene) Medrano-Blanco of Tyson’s Corner, VA; three sons, Jason Wilson of Sumter, Nicholas Wilson of the home, Dion Wilson of Columbia; four grandchildren, Niaira Brooks, Ava Medrano-Blanco, Atlas Wilson and Skylar Wilson (soon-to-be); two brothers, James (Denease) Wilson and Randy Burgess of Sumter; one sister, Teresa Wilson-McCray of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia (Roosevelt) Stanford of Manning, Barbara (Ronald) Martel of Houston, TX; three brothers-in-law, Tyson Green of Waldorf, MD, Stearlin (Fannie) Blanding of Manning, Elder Johnnie (Deborah) Robinson of Conway and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home 923 Twin Lakes Drive, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023, 12:00 noon at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall Street, Sumter, with Pastor Annie Lou Riley, Mt. Hope R. B. H. Church, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 11:15 a. m. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter.
