Elbert Cousar was born on June 4, 1955 to the late Dorothy Reed and David White in Lynchburg. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, July 11, 2023. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and received his diploma from Maywood High School. He was a devoted volunteer at Ruby J. Johnson Head Start for many years. His duties included being a bus monitor, classroom monitor, hall monitor and some janitorial duties. Jackie, as he was affectionately called, had two favorite hobbies. His first hobby was baseball where he was a batboy for Expos Explosion for many years and his second hobby was attending dance parties with his friend, D J Al. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Rosetta Cousar, who raised him; his mother, Dorothy Reed; his father, David White; great grandmother, Lydia Burgess and brother, Lawrence Carter. He leaves to cherish his memories: one sister, Patricia Ann Cousar; three brothers, Gerome Cousar, James Carter, Jr. and Thomas Carter; one special cousin and care taker, Linda Ham; special friend, Stephanie Richardson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Wake Services will be Friday, July 21, 2023 – 5:00 – 6:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2023 – 11:00 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Pastor Andrew McFadden, Pastor of St. Stephen Baptist Church, Marion, Officiating, The procession will leave the home at 10:30 A. M.
