Wallace Roland Dawson, Jr., 88, was born on November 17, 1934 in Rembert, South Carolina. He was the oldest son of the late Wallace Roland Dawson, Sr. and Nettie Baldwin Dawson. God called him home to join his family on June 24, 2023. He received his education from the Sumter County public schools. At the age of 17, he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to learn the trucking business from his uncle Baldwin. Later moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey and started his own trucking company, Roland Dawson Trucking Company. He hauled for different companies from Maryland to Maine. In the early 2000, he retired and moved back to Sumter, South Carolina, where he settled and enjoyed his retirement. Wallace leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Gregory (Jane) Allen, Pamela (Ronald) Jordan, and Glenn (Jackie) Orr, all of Georgia, Ronnie (Georgie) Orr and Valarie Flowers, both of New Jersey, and Annette Dawson of Illinois; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a brother, William Dawson; three sisters, Rosa Lee Diggs, Theola Richardson and Willie Mae Williams-Callaway; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends at the home, 4470 Dawson Road, Rembert. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023 – 11:00 A. M. at Joshua Missionary Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, Pastor, Rev. Rosa Muldrow, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 A. M. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 10:15 A. M. Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
