Jessie Mae Cook, the daughter of the late Virgil and Eva Corbett, was born on December 11, 1938 and departed this life on June 15, 2023 after an extended illness. She was married to the late Raymond Cook, Sr. She was a member of New Haven United Methodist Church of Bishopville, where she served as a member of the Senior Choir, church secretary and usher. She also was a member of the Silver Caravan and the Heavenly Heirs gospel singers. She was head cook at West Lee Elementary School for many years, later worked in Quality Control at Reeves Brothers Finishing plant until her retirement. After retirement, she became a baby-sitter for many of the community families. She had a sweet spirit, but would say what needed to be said. She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, Pastor Raymond F. Cook, Jr. (Patricia), Rodney Cook (Evangelist Jennifer); one grandson, Jeremiah Cook; four granddaughters, Kimberly (Antonio), April Cook, Rodneya Cook, Janiyah Cook; three great grandchildren, Trace Martin, Karis Martin and Zoe Bell; three sisters, Burnett Williams, Mamie Norwood, both of Philadelphia, PA, Mary Corbett of Hartsville; one brother, Jerry Corbett of Bishopville, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She has one brother-in-law, who was married to her sister, Janie that preceded her in death. Her specialty was cooking potato pies, coconut pies and pound cake for her family and friends during the Christmas season. She had special family and friends to help attend to her during her illness, Rosa Mack, Ophelia Davis, Linda Shelton, Reverend Maggie Williams, Shirley Dixon, Susan Ragin, Juanita Boone and the members of Patriot Hospice Care, Jenny, Ashliegh and Angela. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home, 264 Light Wood Knot Road, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Thursday, June 22, 2023, at New Haven United Methodist Church, 3159 Red Hill Road, Bishopville, with the Rev. Angela N. Hampton, Pastor, and the Rev. Kenneth Carter, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 11:20 a. m. Burial will follow in the New Haven United Methodist Church Cemetery.
