James Ting Lewis, son of the late Rosa Pringle Lewis and Sam Lewis, Sr., was born on September 5, 1929 in Sumter, south Carolina. He was the husband of the late Annie Mobley Lewis. God, in His ineffable and always right power, summoned the angels of death to go get James Ting Lewis on Thursday, March 9, 2023 from John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland because his work down here was done, his race had been run and it was time to go to his eternal home. James received his early education is Sumter County School System. James was employed for more than forty years at Union Camp/International Paper Company of Richmond, Virginia. He also worked twenty years for Grooms Transportation. James leaves to cherish his precious memories: a daughter, Diane Lewis; a son, Eric Lewis; three grandchildren, Erica Harper, Eric Lewis, Jr. and Auyrea Clark; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Woodrow T. (Effie) Lewis; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Viewing of the Remains will be Friday, 12:00 noon until time of the services at 1:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, South Carolina, with the Rev. Harriet Massingill, Presiding, Rev. Woodrow T. Lewis, Eulogist. Burial will be in the St. Luke A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery, 2355 North St. Paul Church Road, Sumter.
