Annie Mae Smith was born in Sumter County on June 19, 1932. She was a daughter of the late John Buck White and Irene Shaw White. She departed this life on March 7, 2023. Annie Mae was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. In her youth, she joined Bethel A. M. E. Church in Sumter. Annie Mae spent most of her adult life in the City of New York. Upon returning to Sumter, she joined St. Mark Four Bridges Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended until her health began to fail. She was a member of the Senior Choir and enjoyed singing. Annie Mae loved her family and was a caregiver to several family members. She was an avid lover of sports. She was always ready and willing to share her views concerning basketball, football and tennis. Annie Mae was preceded in death by two children, Diane Smith and Robert Smith; her siblings to include brothers, John White Jr., Sgt. Ben White, Thomas White and one sister, Sadie Mae White Sam; a niece, Delciene Johnson and nephews, Richard Odell Sam, Gerald White and Earl Williams. Annie Mae leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Richard (Sharon) White and John Smith, both of Sumter; sisters, Vermelle Williams of Columbia, and Geraldine (Hercules) Garrick of Sumter; six grandchildren, Angela (William) Lowery of Sumter, Micheal White of North Carolina, Renarda McFadden of Sumter, Joshua (Kiyana) White, Christopher (Shylee) White, both of Columbia, and Jaleel (Kandice) White of Dallas, Texas, ten great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 – 11:00 a. m. at St Mark 4B Missionary Baptist Church, 2280 Fourbridges Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Sammie D. Simmons, Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The Procession will leave the home at 10:30 a. m. Burial will be in the St. Mark 4B Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
