Paul Edward Benjamin (Freddie) 68 years of age, of Hephzibah GA, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Augusta University. Paul was born March 20, 1954, in Sumter, SC to Roosevelt Wells and Louise Benjamin. He graduated from Maywood High School in 1974. He entered the United States Army in May of the same year. He later married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Benjamin. Paul was employed by the United States Army for 22 years and retired as a Sergeant First Class. He also worked for the State of Georgia and retired after 20 years of service as a sergeant. Paul is survived by: his wife Patricia Benjamin; two daughters, Shaquanda Johnson and Vanessa (Kenneth) Williams both of Hephzibah, GA; his son, Michael (LaSonya) Benjamin of Hephzibah, GA; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; his bonus mother, Mary Miller; his sisters, Edith Benjamin Hart and Virginia Benjamin both of New York, Angela Miller of Georgia; his brothers, Brian Wells of Indiana, Elijah Burgess and Jeffery Miller of South Carolina, Kenneth Miller of Tennessee and Tracy Miller of North Carolina, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt and Louise and his sister, Betty Wells. In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 2130 Avenue B, Mayesville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, 11:00 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Fisher, Officiating. The funeral procession will leave the home at a 10:30 a. m. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter.
