Josephine Nickens Parker, 93, widow of Willie Parker, Sr., died on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter, South Carolina. She was born on August 26, 1929, in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Rev. Bowman and Rebecca Davis Nickens. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Grant Hill Baptist Church. After marriage she became a member of Joshua Baptist Church. For years, she was a member of the Joshua Senior Choir and served faithfully as a dedicated member of the Joshua Baptist Missionary Ministry until her death. Her loving memories will be cherished by; her children, Willie Parker, Jr. (Deloris), Sammy H. Parker, Carolyn Parker Gooden (James), Melvin E. Parker, Shirley Parker Snipe (Arthur) and Clarence B. Parker; two sisters-in-law, Geneva Nickens and Edith Nickens, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home from 3:00 – 7:00 p. m., 26 Lakeside Drive, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023, 12:00 noon at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene Dennis, pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The funeral procession will leave the home at a 11:10 a. m. Burial will follow in the Joshua Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
