Brother Marion Henry, affectionately known as “Ace Man” was born August 30, 1936 in Elliott to the late Cleveland Henry and Hattie Mae Henry Washington. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Marion was educated in the Lee County public school system. He worked for the Lee County Highway Department, Campbell Soup and ended his career at DuPont Manufacturing, where he worked for 25 years as a material handler. In 1959, Marion married his high school sweetheart, Ruby Scott. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Michael and Wendy, joining their sister Vermell. He joined New Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bishopville, where he faithfully served as a Trustee Emeritus and Class Leader for decades. Brother Henry also was a proud lifetime member of Liberty Hill Lodge #357. Brother Henry was conferred the 33rd degree, the highest rank in Prince Hall Freemasonry. Marion was a pillar of the community, participating in Meals on Wheels for many years and being known s “the community taxicab” Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of over 60 years, Ruby Henry; son, Michael (Vivian) of Bishopville, S. C. and daughter, Vermell Hewlett of Baltimore, Maryland; grand sons, Jonathan (Bridgette) Henry Sr., Travis Peterson, Brandon Wilson and Chauncey Simon; and grand daughters, Tameka (James) and Tamara Henry; sisters-in-law, Doretha Fortune, Lucy Anderson and Lillian Green, as well as a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Wilson; brothers, J C Henry and Leo Washington, and grandson, Arthur Peacock. In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 1667 Freedom Avenue, Sumter. Viewing for relatives and friends will be from 12:00 noon - 6:00 p. m. with the Masonic Rights from 6:00 - 8:00 p. m. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 23, 2023, 12:00 noon at New Zion A. M. E. Church, 78 Elliott Highway, Bishopville, with the Rev. Dr. Harold Conyers, pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The funeral procession will leave the home at a 11:10 a. m. Burial will follow in the New Zion A. M. E. Church Memorial Garden, 789 Cooper Mill Road, Bishopville.
