Willie Mae “Doll Baby” Scott, 81, was born on September 10, 1941 in Sumter to the late Henry and Lucille James and was the wife of the late Harry Lee Scott. She transitioned on February 9, 2023 in Sumter County. Mrs. Scott was educated in the Sumter County School System. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1960. After graduation she moved to New York for several years. In the 1970’s Willie Mae returned to Sumter, where she was employed by J. Coles Grocery and later by Campbell Soup, where she retired after being a faithful employee of over 20 years. Willie Mae was a member of Congruity Presbyterian Church for many years. She was on the Presbyterian Women’s Committee, Gospel Choir, and she was also a faithful and dedicated member of the Usher Board for over twenty years. She enjoyed serving the Lord as well as studying her Daily Bread, and loved spending time with her family and friends. Willie Mae, a caring and virtuous mother, leaves a legacy of love and kindness to be cherished by: her five children, Kenneth (Loretta) Reid, Wendell (Ella) Scott, Felicia Heyward Scott all of Sumter, Kawana Scott of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Gwendolyn (Kazeem) Odubena of Columbia. She gratefully had a hand in raising her sixteen grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, and three great-great grand children. She also leaves behind, one brother, Frankie Lee James of Camden, New Jersey; one aunt, Jeanette Kennedy of Sumter, and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Berkerly (Celestine) James; two sisters, Mary (Archie) Anderson, Lula Mae James; one sister-in-law, Catherine Scott; one daughter-in-law, Priscilla Reid, as well as numerous of aunts, uncles, nieces, relatives and friends In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 126 Little John Lane, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2023, 11:00 a. m., at Congruity Presbyterian Church, 3750 Congruity Road, Gable, with the Rev. Alonza Washington, pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The funeral procession will leave the home at a 10:30 a. m. Burial will follow in the Congruity Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
