Barry Eugene Jennings, son of Robert Johnson, Sr. and the late Deloris Jennings-Brunson, grandson of James L. Johnson, Sr. and the late Eva Mae Johnson, was born August 20, 1970 in Lee County. There is an inevitable hour of peace that comes to everyone. That hour came to Barry on Monday, February 6, 2023 when he began his journey home to be with God at his home in Woodrow, South Carolina. After the passing of his mother, Barry was raised by his maternal grandparents, the late James (Key) and Allen Jennings. As a youth he became a member of Mt. Olive AME Church in Woodrow. He attended Lee County Public School and was a 1987 graduate of Bishopville High School. After completion of high school, Barry was employed by Billups Transfer Trucking Company. Barry leaves to cherish his memories: stepmother, Willie Mae Johnson and stepfather Earl Brunson; three sisters, Kimberly Johnson of Sumter, Stephanie of Columbia, and Angela (Wayne) Wiggins of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Robert “BJ” Johnson Jr. of Sumter; five uncles, Tony (Clara) of California, James (Elsie), James Jr., Alexander and Rev. William T. (Carolyn) Johnson all of Sumter; six aunts, Katherine Brunson, Frances (Johnny) Ray, Sandra (Larry) Wilson all of Woodrow, Eva Johnson of Columbia, Alvinia Johnson of Charlotte, NC, Evelyn Bennett of Sumter, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and his devoted and loyal friend, Ms. Sissy. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 3047 Woodrow Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Monday, February 13, 2023 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. R. L. Brown, pastor of Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, Woodrow, Officiating, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m. Burial will follow in the Colclough Cemetery, Dubose Siding Road, Sumter.
