Georgeanna Mickens Hodge, the daughter of the late George and Estelle Gallishaw Mickens, was born April 19, 1937 in Sumter. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At a young age she joined Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church of Woodrow. She later married and moved to New Jersey for a better life for her and her family. She found employment as a presser for Dikran Cleaners until she retired. Georgeanna joined Gethsemane Baptist Church in Newark, NJ was baptized and became a missionary. She later moved on to Promised Lan Baptist Church of Newark and served on their Missionary Board and adult choir for twenty years. Upon retiring, she returned home to her place of birth and Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church where she remained. She leaves to carry on her precious memories: two daughters, Lucinda (Craig) Virgil-Doyle, Angela Hodge; one son, Leezander Mickens of East Orange, N. J.; two sisters, Geneva (Joselin) Prudent of Lans Downe, PA, Patricia Mickens of West Netmeg, Delaware; five brothers, Rodney (Hope) Mickens of Long Island, N. Y., John (Gloria) Mickens of Brooklyn, N. Y., George Mickens Jr. and Leroy Mickens of Florence and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 105 South Sumter Street, Apt #311, Holiday Manor, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, 2:00 p. m., at Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. R. L. Brown, pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 1:00 p. m. for viewing until time of services. The funeral procession will leave the home at a 1:20 p. m. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Sumter.
