On December 29, 2022, Gertrude W. Dennis, gained her wings. In her new home, there will be no more pain or suffering for she is in a better place. She was born on June 6, 1933 in Rembert to the late Frank and Eugenia Davis Wilson. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Ebenezer High School. In 1953, she married the love of her life, the late David L. Wilson, Jr. and moved to Bronx, New York. While living in Bronx, and working at Bronx State Hospital in the Mental Health Department, she pursued a degree in nursing at Bronx Community College. Mrs. Dennis was a devoted Christian and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member for over fifty years. She held several positions throughout her lifetime to include secretary of the Sunday School Department, member of the Gospel and Senior Choirs and a member and secretary of the Senior Missionary Ministry. She also served the Rembert Community through membership of the Order of the Eastern Stars Catchall Lodge # 315 Her survivors include, one daughter, Tynesiha Brooks Livingston (Victor) of Columbia; step son, Herbert Dennis, Jr. (Christine) of Rembert; three grandsons; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Eugenia Wilson Carter (Willie) of Columbia, Mable Deas (Eugene) of Washington, D. C.; a special niece, Deloris Wilson; a special god daughter, Mary Delapenia, and a host of other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home 4485 Furmanfield Road, Rembert. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 – 2:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Eugene Burden, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 1:20 p. m. Burial will be in the Hopewell Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 3285 Peach Orchard Road, Dalzell.
