Samuel Delay Sr., affectionately known as “Uncle Sam”, departed this life on Thursday, December 1, 2022, peacefully at his home. Born in Sumter, on April 10, 1951, he was the son of the late Moise Delay, Sr. and Mary Nickens Delay. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Lincoln High School, Class of 1969. At an early age he accepted Christ and joined Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter. He worked as a bank teller in Baltimore, Maryland for many years. Later he relocated to Sumter, and worked in the industrial park of Sumter. He faithfully enjoyed riding his bike everywhere and playing his games on his cell phone. He was a true out door’s man, planting his flowers in specific pots and playing cards with family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memories: his son, Samuel Delay, Jr. of Baltimore, MD; granddaughter, Tyshae Delay of Baltimore, MD; a devoted mother of his son, Lola Canada; two sisters, Ruby McFadden of New Jersey and Gwendolyn Weston of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Delay of Sumter, and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face mask and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home 16 Shuler Drive, Sumter. Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m., Friday, December 9, 2022 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Elder James H. Jackson III, Eulogist. The funeral procession will leave the home at 1:30 p. m. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Peach Orchard Road (Highway 441), Dalzell.
