Our precious father, Thomas Kirkland, Sr. entered into eternal rest after an extended illness on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. He was born on July 12, 1935 in Sumter County, to the late Rev. James E. Kirkland and Carolina Alston Kirkland Dennis, step father, Freddie Dennis, Sr. He grew up and was educated in Sumter. He was formerly married to the late Louise Dinkins Kirkland for 59 years and to that union five children were born. Thomas accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. Thomas was a devoted employee at Santee Print of Sumter for 21 years. He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted children, Albert (Denise), Gladys Martin, both of Sumter, Dorothy Brooks (Jimmy) of Wedgefield, Thomas Jr. and Ruby Maxine Blair, both of Rembert; sixteen grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild; one step daughter; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face mask and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home 5240 Dais Road, Rembert. Funeral services will be 2:00 p. m., Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 7355 Camden Highway, Rembert, with the Rev. Anthony L. Taylor, Sr. Pastor, Eulogist. The funeral procession will leave the home at 1:30 p. m. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
