Welcome to Williams Funeral Home

George Shaw was born on June 28, 1941 in Lee County, SC. The son of Samuel Shaw and his acquired and beloved mother Lottie C. Shaw, George was the oldest of eight siblings. He went to rest quietly at his home on December 7, 2022. George worked on the farm with his mother while attending Lincoln High School before relocating to New Jersey. George Shaw was a free-spirited man that loved life and lived it to the fullest. Always the life of the party, his laughter could be heard from miles away. While many called him George, he was known by many of his riding buddies as “long hair,” affectionately. He was ambitious and fulfilled his childhood dream of operating his own business. While he may have displayed a tough exterior, he had a caring heart. He was preceded in death by both parents and leaves behind to celebrate his life: wife of 52 years Rose A. Shaw; one daughter, Shelia Shaw of Charlotte, NC and one son, George Shaw, Jr. of Mint Hill, NC; two siblings, Eugene Shaw (Boogie) and Barbara Ann Jonas both of Sumter; four grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a former spouse, Thelma Shaw, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, December 10, 2022 at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Samuel Temoney, pastor of Quinn Chapel A. M. E. Church, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 12:30 p. m. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter.
