Today we bow in humble submission to thank God for Onyea Shamyah Helton who was born on September 5, 2000 to Shonte Helton and Robert Pearson and departed this earthly life on September 19, 2022. She attended the public schools of Harford County, Maryland and Sumter County, South Carolina. She graduated from Sumter High School with the Class of 2019. We thank God for allowing her to grow into womanhood. "Yaya", as her family and friends knew her, was a devoted daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt and friend until her passing. Her passion was hair, makeup, and art. She leaves to cherish precious memories: her parents, Shonte Helton of South Carolina, Robert Pearson of Maryland; four brothers, Shakai Helton-Hill, Semieon Helton-Hill, LaQuest Pearson, Sgt. Bernell Thomas; one sister, Kayne Pearson; one nephew, Si’yohn Helton-Hill; two grandmothers, Valeria Helton and Mary Pearson; two uncles, Jamal Helton, Damien Mayo; two aunts, Schmikah Pearson, Rena Pearson; three friends, Cazieh Robinson, Alexis Johnson, Myasia Peoples, and a host of other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 1062 West Sherwood Drive, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Monday, October 3, 2022, in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. James Jackson, officiating. The procession will leave the home at 10:15 a. m. Burial will be in the New Covenant Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Martin Town Road, Sumter.
