Elouise Capers, age 76, adoring wife to her husband Isaac Capers and loving mother of five, departed this earth on August 31, 2022, after a courageous battle with diabetes. Elouise was born on May 2, 1946, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Willie Smith and Maebell DeLay. She obtained her GED in 1976 and worked as a cook for James Varick Day Care Center until she retired in 2009. Elouise was known to all for her “famous” macaroni and cheese and sweet potato pie. Cooking was Elouise passion, and she did it well. Elouise was a “second “mother to many and welcomed anyone who came to her home. She was a spiritual woman and made sure her family knew about Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Elouise is survived by: her husband, Isaac Capers; her daughters, Angela Mann, Theresa Capers, and Latasha Capers; her grandchildren, Jaquan Roberts, Eric Capers, Terell Harris, Donell Mann and Isaiah Williams (Pookie); her two sisters, Aline De’Lay of Baltimore, Maryland and Sarah E. De’Lay of Silver Springs, Maryland, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elouise is preceded in death by her parents, Maebell DeLay and Willie Smith; her children, Jacqueline Carraway and Jeffery Capers; her two brothers, William and John DeLay, and her five sisters, Lucille Ross, Pearline DeLay, Janie LeSane, Ruby DeLay, and Pauline DeLay. Visitation will be held 11:00 a. m. until 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 17, 2022 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell.
