Welcome to Williams Funeral Home

Sister Lillie M. Spann Cooper passed away peaceful at her home early Monday morning, August 29, 2022 in Sumter. She was the youngest child born to her parents, the late James and Janie Thomas Spann on January 13, 1960. Sister Cooper was affectionately called by her family and friends Lillie or Lillie Mae. She attended the Public School System of Kershaw County. Lillie is a graduate of Camden High School. She was gainfully employed by the Sumter County Public School System for several years. Lillie worked at Willow Drive, Crosswell and Millwood Elementary. She retired from Furman Middle School on June 3, 2022. She was thrilled and very excited about her recent retirement! After retiring for a couple of months and having a deep and strong love for children, Lillie began volunteering this academic school year of 2022-2023 at Pocalla Springs Elementary School three times a week! Lillie was a devoted and loving member of her church. She attended St. John as a child. When she grew older and clearly understood the importance of giving your life to Christ, she was baptized and became a lifetime involved member of St. John Baptist. Sister Lillie was Vice President of the Missionary Ministry, active member of Bible Study Classes and continued faithfully during Covid-19 by Zoom every Wednesday night. She was an Usher and a member of 1st Sunday Choir. Those who will forever treasure Lillie’s love and kind heart: son, Willie (Shaquana) Cooper; daughter of the home, Shannan Cooper, sisters, Mabel Spann of Sumter, and Dianne (Willie) James of Camden, granddaughters, along with nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. We are deeply grateful and will always cherish what time the Lord gave to us for the life Lillie lived, the love she gave to her family, her church, her friends and the children she served for many years in the school system of Sumter, South Carolina! In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home of her son, Willie Cooper, 715 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, September 3, 2022 at St. John Baptist Church, 1315 Springhill Road, Camden. The Remains will be placed in the church at 12:00 noon for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in the St. John Baptist Church Cemetery.
