Willie James Green, the fifth son born to the union of the late David V. Green and the late Mary Lou Jenkins Green, was born on December 22, 1956. He departed this life on March 1, 2022. Willie was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, District 17. In 1976, after he graduated from Sumter High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served honorable until his discharge in December 1981. While in the United States Army, Willie completed basic training, AIT and Paratrooper School. He went on to serve in both elite branches of the United States Army Paratroopers, the 101st Airborne Division and 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While on active duty at Fort Bragg, he met and married the love of his life, Sylvia Maxwell Green in 1978. Into this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Timeka Green and Chiquita Green. Upon Willie’s discharge from the United States Army, he moved his family to Towson, Maryland. Willie was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife, Sylvia M. Green; his sisters, May Francis and Ruth Green Blackwell, and four brothers, David Green, Jr., Danny C. Green, Lucious Green and Harry Leroy Green. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters; one grandson, Harold Green II; one sister, Dianetta Green; three brothers, William Arthur Green, Ernie E. Green and John Edward Green, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends., In accordance with the COV19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitation at the home, 26 South Magnolia Street, Sumter. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 – 11:00 a. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Larry Clark, officiating. The procession will leave at 10:20 a. m. from the home. Burial will be 10:00 a. m., Monday, March 14, 2022, in the Florence National Cemetery, 803 East National Cemetery Road, Florence.
