Devonna Fantasia Washington, born June 6, 2001 in Sumter, to Tiffany Washington and the late Franco Benjamin. She entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 2, 2022 at MUSC University Hospital in Charleston. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lakewood High School, Class of 2019. Later, she attended Francis Marion College in Florence. Due to the pandemic, she continued her college courses on line. She worked at McDonald’s and did home health. Devonna grew up on Robinson Lane, Sumter, and in the state of North Carolina most of her life. She was a very smart, intelligent joyful person. She loved to babysit her godson, Jhymire and her little cousins also. Her nickname was “Butterfly” from so much love and respect she gave. Devonna accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior as she attended Mt. Pleasant A. M. E. Church in Lynchburg. Devonna leaves to cherish her memories with her mother, Tiffany Diane Washington; her grandmother, Mildred Ann Washington; grandfathers, Albert Junior Washington and Herbert Lee Boone (Jacquetta); three brothers, Altonio Washington, Devontae Washington and Patrick Slater; one niece, Dae’Lynn Ashae Washington; god mother, Recarshe Charles; god son, Jhymire Branch; one uncle, Herbert Benjamin (Sharon); three aunts, Denise Davis, Tammy Benjamin and Herlonda Washington (Andre); stepmother, Gwendolyn Benjamin; step grandmother, Naomi Slater, and a host of other relatives and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitations at the home, 19 Robinson Lane, Sumter. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 11, 2022 – 1:00 p. m. at Bradford Cemetery, Highway 15 South, Sumter, with Pastor Leroy Blanding, Sr., Presiding. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m.
