Betty Clea Martin was born June 22, 1951 in Rembert, and was the fourth child of the late Charlie Clea, Sr. and Ida L. Davis Clea. She was called to rest on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the age of 70. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and truly a woman of the All Mighty God. She was raised in the church and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. She attended church faithfully. She held the positions of former Church Clerk, Financial Secretary, Trustee Board, various Choirs, YWA, Missionary, Pastors Aide, The Willing Workers and The Twelve Tribes of Israel. Betty graduated from Hillcrest High School and also from Palmer College in Columbia. She worked at Du-Pont in Camden for many years and also at Thurmoil (formerly BF Goodrich) in Elgin. She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Young; father, Charlie Clea, Sr., mother, Ida L. Davis Clea and her sister, Celestine Clea Stokes. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband, Sam Martin; son, Maurice (Shereka) Young of Columbia; step-children, Samuel (Kay) Martin, Joe Nathan Jenkins, Sandra (John) Jenkins, Loranda Martin; sisters, Dorothy Primus of Sumter, Evon (Nathan) Wages of Blythewood; brothers, Charlie (Ruth) Clea, Jr., James (Shirley) Clea, Raymond Clea of Rembert; sisters-in-law, Geneva Session, Ada Brunson; brothers-in-law, Rochel Martin, Jr, Raymond Martin, James Martin, William D. Martin; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 940 Westbury Mill Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Woodrow, with the Rev. Dr. R. L. Brown, pastor, Rev. Anthony Taylor, pastor of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Eulogist, assisted by the Rev. Timothy Johnson. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of service. The procession will leave from the home at 10:30 a. m. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 7355 Camden Highway, (Highway 521 North) Rembert.
