Elder Lee Holmes Sr., widower of Mattie L. Holmes and son of the late James Lucas Sr. and Willie Mae Holmes Lucas, was born on November 22, 1940 in St. Charles. He departed this earthly life on November 18, 2021 at National Health Care Center in Sumter. He attended the public schools of Lee County and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, Class of 1957. He was formerly employed by Exide Battery and Martin Colo-Fi, of Sumter. He started his Christian Journey in his youth at Barnettsville Baptist Church and later in life, he was affiliated with Faith Tabernacle of Sumter. Elder was a member of The Bernie Elks Masonic Lodge 1195, served as Exalter Ruler PSP Past State President Council. Precious memories will be cherished by: two sons, Ricky (Annette) Holmes, Elder, Jr. (Barbara) Holmes; five daughters, Teresa (Albert) Luckey, Lady Kaldejia (Dr. Robert) Faulk, Valencia (Frederick) Gadson, Gwendolyn Wilson and Dorothy Davis; three brothers, Robert (Logretta) Lucas, Willie Lucas and Joseph Lucas; four sisters, Willie Mae (Allen) Cocklin, Shirley Ford, Minister Jacqueline (Apostle Johnny) Henry, and Patricia Webster; one aunt, Betty Bradley; four sisters-in-law; sixteen grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins other family members and many friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home from 4:00 – 7:00 p. m., 60 Amherst Court, Sumter. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p. m., Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Bradford Cemetery, Highway 15 South, Sumter, with the Rev. Robert Faulk, officiating, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 1:40 p. m.
