Dempsie Phillip Sanders, 65 of Dalzell, departed this earthly life on Friday, September 10, 2021. Born on August 7, 1956 to the late John William Sanders and Pearline Sanders-Dennis, he was the youngest of eight siblings. Dempsie graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1974 and shortly after joined the United States Air Force as a Security Police Officer at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. He later attended Sumter Area Technical College currently known as Central Carolina Technical College, where he received his Associate Degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Dempsie was employed with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company for 16 years. Dempsie was a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church where he sang on the adult choir until his untimely accident in March of 1993. Dempsie is survived by his wife of 37 years, Alta Mae Sanders; his two daughters, Marcia Sanders-Scott (Jonathan) of Charlotte, NC and Yolanda Sanders of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Pearl Sanders of Valdosta, Georgia and Felicia Lloyd of Sumter; three brothers, Sammie Sanders of Rembert, Boykin Sanders of Philadelphia, PA, and William Sanders (Peggy) of Rembert; one aunt, Ruth Sanders of Rembert; four sister-in-laws; two brother-in-laws; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COV19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitations at the home from 4:00 – 6:00 p. m., 3175 Eydie Street, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 – 12:00 noon in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter with the Rev. Melvin Mack, Pastor of Rafting Creek Baptist Church, officiating, Eulogist. The procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a. m. Burial will be 12:00 noon, Thursday, September 16, 2021 in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.
