Victoria Dennis Young, affectionately known as “Pennie”, was born on July 16, 1957 in Rembert. Pennie departed her life on August 30, 2021 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter. She was the third of three children born to the late John Dennis and Kathryn Workman Dennis. She worked several jobs throughout her life such as District Photos, Craig Industries, and Young’s Market to name a few. Pennie always worked hard so she could provide for her three sons that she loved more than life itself. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized and became a member of Rafting Creek Baptist Church until her health started to deteriorate. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Willie Jr., Rickie and David Young of Rembert; one stepdaughter, Romana (Willie) Peete of Columbia; nine grandchildren; daughters in Christ, Jean Marie Butler of Rembert, Precious Pringle of North Carolina, Chasity Johnson of Columbia; a good friend who helped take care of her Debra Bulter; her siblings: Annette L. Dennis of LaPlata, MD, Martha Ann Workman (Richmond) of Washington, DC, Brian A. Mitchell (Marlene) of Upper Marlboro, MD; stepbrother, William Mitchell of Rembert; stepsister, Kenneth Mae Mitchell of Columbia; nieces, Karen Y. Mitchell of LaPlata, MD, Kelly B. Mitchell-Carroll (Patrick) of Washington, DC and Nicole S. Workman; aunts, Margaret “Sing” Davis, Laura Dinkins, Doise Workman, and Carie Mae Dennis, and a host of cousins and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a. m., Saturday, September 4, 2021 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Pastor Marie Sanders, officiating, eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 9:20 a. m. Burial will be in the Rafting Creek Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 3860 Highway 261 North, Rembert.
