Deacon Herbert Lee Dease went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Herbert was born December 8, 1943 in Sumter County to the late Solomon and Esther Deas. Herbert graduated from the former Ebenezer High School, Class of 1965, and earned his Electrician’s license from Central Carolina Technical College. Herbert was employed by Electrical Wholesalers, then most recently at Mathis Electrical Company. He joined Joshua Baptist Church at an early age, and that remained one of the loves of his life. Herbert was a true Christian, he was always willing to help his fellow man; he loved God and his family. Herbert was a member of Catchall Masonic Lodge #425 and served as Past Master. Herbert was married to the love of his life, Barbara Jenkins Dease. Herbert was married to the former Eva Loney and from this union they had three children: Darrel Christopher (Shirlene) Dease of Columbia, Verna Dease and Herbert Dewayne (Regina) Dease of Sumter; children in love, Sandra Davis of Columbia, Derek Davis of Sumter, and Stephanie Davis of Charlotte, N. C.; two brothers, Elbert (Juanita) Deas and Norris (Barbara) Deas of Sumter; two nephews raised as brothers, Rudolph (Guzelle) Morgan of Stafford, Virginia and Donald (Brenda) Deas of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four sisters, Linda Deas of Brooklyn, N. Y., Gloria (John) Brooks, Carol Deas and Cassie Ola Deas, all of Sumter; six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitation at the home from 4:00 – 7:00 p. m., 5438 Oakland Drive, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, July 2, 2021 at Joshua’s Recreational Out Reach Center, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, Pastor, Rev. Sammie Simmons, presiding. The procession will leave the home at 11:30 a. m. Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
