Elvis Perry Nelson, son of the late Jessie Nelson, Sr. and Frizeal Green Hayward Nelson, was born February 4, 1957 in Sumter. He departed this life on June 14, 2021 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. He attended the public schools of Sumter County. After graduation, he joined the United States Army where he earned an honorable discharge as Sergeant. He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Julia Anderson Nelson of many years; one son, Rodney Gemanne. (Melissa) Anderson of Sumter; one daughter, Kristen Anderson of Baltimore, Maryland; four brothers, Stanley Nelson of Kansas, Garry Leroy Nelson, Samuel Hayward, Jr. and Terrance Murray, all of Sumter; sisters, Geneva McCoy, Lillie Nelson and Peggy Nelson, all of Sumter, S. C.; three brothers-in-law, Samuel Balls, sr., Raymond Samuels an Lawrence China; sisters-in-law, Carrie Anderson, Eliza Benton and Deloris China; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 3854 Keegan Lane, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Eddie Mayes, officiating. The procession will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m.
