Elijah Mickens, 84, husband of Betty Lou Ross Mickens, transitioned on May 28, 2021 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, Hartsville. Born November 30, 1936 in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Tallie and Lillie Mae Wilson Mickens. At an early age he joined Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Later, he moved to Newport News, Virginia, where he was employed with the Nick Allen Buick Auto Dealer before he became disable. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, yardwork and doing crossword puzzles. Elijah leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Betty; four daughters, Karen Mickens of Hampton, VA, Adran Mickens of Charleston, S. C., Armellini (Tarantino) Rogers of Charlotte, N. C. and Stephanic Scott of Newport News, VA; three sons, Daryl (Phyllis) Mickens of Newport News, VA, Eric Mickens of Hampton, VA and Quincy Mickens of Charlotte, N. C.; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Samuel Mickens of Riveria Beach, FLA, Thomas Mickens of Dalzell, S. C.; one sister, Lillie Mae Mickens of Forestville, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID -19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Graveside services will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, June 4, 2021 at the Colclough Cemetery, Dubose Siding Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. R. L. Brown, pastor of Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church, officiating. The procession will leave at 11:30 a. m. from the home.
