Our beloved mother and grandmother, Margie Cooper, 91, died May 4, 2021 at home from natural causes. Margie was the only child of the late Rosy Lee Whaley and Mr. Whaley. She was born on November 19, 1929 in Eastover (Richland County). She was educated in the public school system in Eastover. In 1946, she married Willie Cooper. Their union gave birth to ten children. She and her family relocated to New York City in 1962. Together they owned and operated a restaurant / candy store for several years. Later, Margie ventured into the Textile industry, where she worked for 10 + years. Those left to cherish her memory are: five sons, Eddie Cooper, Willie Cooper, Jr., Barry Cooper, Bernard Cooper and Melvin Cooper; three daughters, Margie Lee Rambert, Beatrice Sumter and Mildred Joyner; twenty-one grandchildren; a host of great, and great-great grandchildren, cousins, friends and loving neighbors. In accordance with the COVID -19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Monday, May 10, 2021 in The John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Richard Berry, Officiating. Visitation will be 2:00 p. m. until 6:00 p. m., Sunday in The John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m. Burial will be held in the Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 720 Congaree Road, Gadsden.
