Ronnie “Rommie” Burgess, 86, son of the late Thomas A. and Avie B. Burgess, was born on November 30, 1934 in Williamsburg County. He departed this life on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. Rommie was affectionately called “Tuly” by his siblings and those who knew him well. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He had a praying family where he was taught of the Lord at a very early age until he left home. Tuly moved to New Haven, Connecticut in his mid 20’s where he lived his entire adult life before moving back to Sumter. He worked on the shipyard as a deck hand while living in Connecticut He leaves to cherish his memories: four sisters, Marie Martin of Cassopolis, MI, Lillie Vaughn of Yonkers, N. Y., Shirley King of Bronx, N. Y. and Shelby B. Carter of Sumter; two special nephews, Joe Joe and Blake Edwards and a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p. m., Thursday, February 4, 2021 at the Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church Yard Cemetery, 5405 Black River Road, Rembert. with the Rev. Clifton Witherspoon, pastor, the Rev. Harry Clark, officiating. The procession will leave at 1:20 p. m. from Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter
