Deacon Purley Wilson, Sr., 83, was born September 6, 1937 in Lee County to the late Malichi and Rebecca Wilson. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence. He attended the public schools of Lee County. Deacon Wilson retired from Sumter School District after years of employment. He was a very hard worker and a man that believed in taking care of his family. Deacon Wilson was a lifetime member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Bishopville, where he served faithfully as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry until his health began to fail. He is sadly missed by his wife of 60 years, Annie Mae Wilson; three sons, Randy Burgess, James Alvin (Denease) Wilson, Purley (Edrena) Wilson, and one daughter, Teresa Wilson-McCray, all of Sumter; one sister, Ethel Gremball of New York; one son-in-law, Tyson Green of Waldorf, Maryland; one sister-in-law, Florence Wilson; sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all home visitation at 1027 Dibert Street, Sumter. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p. m., Monday, October 12, 2020 at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter with the Rev. Jerome Douglas, officiating. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m.
