Samuel F. “Tilly” Brown, son of the late Jervey and Adaline Nelson Brown, was born on March 14, 1946 in Sumter County. He departed this life on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital, Columbia. Samuel attended the public schools of Sumter County and Voorhees College. Samuel met JoAnn Williams on March 12, 1972, proposed in June and they were married on December 23, 1972. To this union, one son was born Monte’ Samuel Brown. Samuel was a life-long member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities including the Usher Board, Choirs, Harvest Hope Committee, Mission Committee and Kitchen Committee. He also served with the Wateree Association Lower Division Sunday School, Brotherhood and Choir. He served as an advisor with the State Junior Brotherhood where he held yearly Bible Bee Retreats at Morris College. Samuel retired from Crescent Cooper Tools. Samuel is survived by his wife, JoAnn W. Brown; son, Monte’ Samuel (Kathy) Brown; two grandsons, Kingston Tyler and Mason Adams Brown; two brothers, Ernest Brown of Sumter and James Brown of Bronx, N Y; one aunt, Amy N. Wright of Winston-Salem, N. C.; two sisters-in-law, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In accordance with the COV19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home. Public viewing will be held Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Graveside Services will be held Friday, October 2, 2020 – 11:00 a. m. at Hillside Memorial Park, 2561 Cain Mill Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Willie Wright, officiating. The procession will leave from the home at 10:30 a. m.
