Elijah “Toot” Richardson, 98, husband of the late Thelma J. Richardson and son of the late Johnnie and Agnes Johnson Richardson, was born April 20, 1922 in Oswego. On June 16, 2020, God called one of his strongest angel home. He departed this life at his home in Sumter. Elijah attended the public schools of Sumter. Later, he moved to Richmond, Virginia, where he worked in the shipyard and then he relocated to New York City. There he worked in the garment district. While in New York City, he met and married the love of his life, Thelma Lee Richardson. Upon retirement from the garment industry, he and his wife of 65 years moved to Sumter. He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Darlene Richardson (Dennis) and Shirley Blanding, both of Sumter; three grandchildren; one sister, Virginia McMillian; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 5275 Burrows Road. Sumter. Graveside Services will be held 2 p. m., Saturday, June 20, 2020 from the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 184 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Ernest W. Frierson, pastor, eulogist. The procession will leave from the home at 1:20 p. m.
