Annie Helton Connor, 92, known as “Dina”, was the fifth of eleven children born to the late James and Janie Davis Helton on April 13, 1927 in Sumter. She departed this life on Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Philadelphia, PA. She completed high school and went on to Morris College to pursue and education degree. She graduated from Morris College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Dina moved to Philadelphia in 1952, where she became an elementary school teacher. A few years later, she met and married Henry L. Connor. She was a dedicated member of the First African Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where she served as a deacon for several terms. Whenever Dina visited her family’s home in Sumter, she attended services at New Covenant Presbyterian Church. She leaves to mourn her memories: two sons, Henry and Magnus; daughter-in-law, Dyann; four grandchildren three great-grandchildren;; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, March 14, 2020 from the New Covenant Presbyterian Church USA, 907 Legare Street, Sumter, with Pastor Elijah Washington, pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11 a. m. Burial will be in the New Covenant Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
