Oliver Felder, Jr., 63, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in Bowling Green, Virginia. Born June 26, 1956, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Oliver Felder, Sr. and Estelle White-Felder. Oliver was an outstanding athlete. He graduated from Sumter High School, Class of 1975. Upon graduation, he attended Johnson C. Smith University. After college, he pursued a career in the United States Marine Corp, becoming a Gunnery sergeant. Oliver retired from the United States Marine Corps after serving 20 years. He received multiple honors during his service to include: Rifle Expert Badge, Good Conduct Metal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Navy Arctic Service Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal. Upon the completion of his service to the United States Marine Corp, he furthered his career with the United States Postal Service, where he later retired. After retiring from the Postal Service, Oliver then pursued a career as a bus driver for FRED Commuter Buses in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His family rejoices knowing the he is present with the Lord. His memory will be cherished by his loving family; one daughter, Tiffeny White; three sisters, Loretta Felder-Keniley (Johnnie) of Washington, DC, Lisha McAllister of Byron, GA, Aronda Reed-O’Neal (Charles) of Mansfield, TX, Juanita Ross (Felix) of Greenville, NC; one brother, Aaron Reed of Mansfield, TX; two brothers-in-law; father-in-law, Ernest Smith, Sr.; five grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 22 Walsh Grove Street, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held noon, Saturday, January 11, 2020 from the Bethel A. M. E. Church, 218 East Calhoun Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Davie Brown, Pastor, Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11 a. m. The procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a. m.
