Leo Halley, Jr., 88, departed this life on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Covenant Place Skilled Nursing Facility in Sumter. Born in Kershaw County, January 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Leo Halley, Sr. and Harriet Missouri Halley. Leo’s early Christian education began at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, Camden, and after his return from New York, he returned to St. Matthew, where he faithfully attended until his health began to fail. He was educated in the public schools of South Carolina and New York City. After a flourishing career with the New York City Transit, he retired in the mid 1990’s and relocated to Sumter, where he lived until his death. He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Harriet McNeill and Wilhelmina Bryant-Forbes of New York; three sisters, Frances (Simon) Bolden of Upper Marlboro, MD, Dorothy Halley of Rembert and Ruth (Dele) Omonijo of Camden; two brothers, Sam Halley of Camden and Lawrence (Iola) Halley of Lugoff; twelve grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 305 Kendal Avenue, Sumter. Funeral services will be held in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, at 11 a. m., Tuesday, August 6, 2019 with Pastor Jerry L. Dicks, officiating, Pastor Willie Dennis, eulogist. The procession will leave from the home at 10:20 a. m.
