Mercina Butler, 95, departed this life on Friday, May 10, 2019 after a brief illness at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter . Born in Sumter County on November 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late David and Anna Anderson Porter. She was predeceased by her husband, Elex “Buck” Butler; two brothers, Reo Porter and Edward Porter, and two sisters, Emma Porter-Wright and Dorothy Griffin. Mercinia is survived by: her daughters, Anna Goodwin, Lorine Simmons, both of Columbia, Shirley Hansford of Sumter; a granddaughter she reared as her own, Lisa “Cookie” Wilson (Fred); brothers, Ernest Porter (Hattie), Marion “Thomas” Porter and Lafayette Porter; a loving niece, Gilda Wilds (Donald); two sisters-in-law, Pretto Porter and Virginia Butler; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; seventeen great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 159 Rast Street, Sumter. Visitation will be held Friday, 5 – 7 p. m. in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019, 11 a. m. at Antioch United Methodist Church, 4040 Dubose Siding Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Raymond Cook, Jr., pastor, eulogist. The Remains will be place in the church at 10 a. m. for viewing until the hour of service. The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a. m. from the home. Burial will be in the Hillside Memorial Park, 3001 Cain’s Mill Road, Sumter.
