The angels descended from heaven and came for Simmy “Sam” Jones, 79, on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Springdale Health Care Center, Camden. Born in Lyons, GA, November 20, 1939, he was the son of the late Roger and Katherine Davis Jones. At an early age, Simmy left Georgia to live in Chicago with his Aunt Alama and Uncle Cleveland, where he graduated from DuSable Leadership Academy. After graduation, he relocated to New Jersey where he attended Trade School to become a mechanic. He also attended First Baptist Church, Linden, and was a lead singer with the choir. Later, he moved to South Carolina and became a member of Mt. Glory Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Mary R. Lowery Harvin. He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife, Rosa Lee Lowery Jones; two daughters, Jennifer Jones of Linden, NJ and Naimah Jones (Jermaine) Nelson of Charlotte, NC; one son, Jon Jones of Columbia; one brother, John L. Jones (Josephine) of Chicago, ILL; one sister, Sarah Johnson of Roselle, NJ; a special niece, Loretta Howard of Atlanta, GA; a special nephew, Jules Howell of Columbia; three brothers-in-law, Thomas “Bubba” (Seretta) Lowery, Eddie (Lettie) Charles and Calvin Hastie, all of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Ruby Jones of Morristown, NJ and Reverend Dr. Mary R. Lowery Harvin of Sumter; three grandchildren, Amari, Jalynn, Kennadi; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 3450 Kel Sam Drive, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019, 1 P. M., from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home, Inc, 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with the Pastor Marie Sanders, pastor of Anointed Word Christina worship Center, Officiating, Eulogist. The funeral procession will leave from the home at 12:20 p. m.
