Martha Lee Givens, 79, departed her earthly journey on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at her home. Born on March 27, 1942, in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Esabella Lonon Capers. Ms. Martha or Mother Givens, as she was affectionately known by her community and church family, was a member of Crossroad Christian Fellowship Ministry. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. Additionally, Mother Givens held the positions of childcare provider for 20 years and private duty nurse for 26 years. She was a pillar of her community and acting mother to many besides her own. She expressed her love for family and friends through her cooking, visits and phone conversations. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two brothers, Isaac Capers (Eloise) of New Windsor, New York and Earl Capers of Baltimore, Maryland; two sons, Levelton Givens of Goose Creek, and Raymond Givens of Sumter; two daughters, Diane Givens and Tammy Benbow of Sumter; and adopted granddaughter, Stacy Givens of Sumter; best friends, Apostle Allean Spellman, Ada Wright and Emma Jean Lonon; eleven grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accord with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 18 Oakview Drive, Sumter. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p. m., Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 North Guignard Drive, Sumter, with Apostle Sylvester Francis, officiating. The procession will leave from the home at 2:00 p. m.
