Samuel Mahoney, Jr. was born August 12, 1942 to the late Samuel Mahoney, Sr. and Mary Gooden Mahoney in Sumter. He departed this life on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Sumter Health and Rehab East, Sumter. He attended the public schools of Sumter County and later moved to the Washington, D C Area. He later returned home and was a member of Mt. Olive A. M. E. Church and was baptized. Sam enjoyed his family. He especially loved the little children. He was a person that would help you in any way if he could. He was full of life. He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Carolyn (Bert) Jenkins of Sumter, Tawanna Miller (David) Delaney of Washington, D. C.; one brother, James (Katie) Mahoney of Sumter; three sisters, Johnnie Mae Mahoney of Sumter, Esther (Geoge) Rogers of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Lucille Mahoney Saunders of Washington, D. C.; brother-in-law, Ernest Jenkins of Sumter; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during all visitation at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, James and Katie Mahoney, 4545 Cotton Acres Road, Sumter. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a. m., Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden, Pear Street, Dalzell, with the Rev. Dr. R. L. Brown, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m.
