Shernecka Lowanda Commander Wahid, affectionately known as “Nickie”, transitioned to her heavenly home Thursday, February 29, 2024. She was born on October 2, 1977 in Sumter County to Elouise Commander and the late Sammie Lee Jones. She attended the public schools of Lee County. Nickie worked several jobs doing housekeeping. She loved a clean environment. She was a dedicated fan of her children, grandchildren and family. She was our life girl. She was a loving loud out spoken person that always told you how it is. Her favorite quote was “Nickie gonna be Nickie” and she didn’t play about her children. Nickie favorite things to do were dancing, singing and vibing. She loved her music. She also loved to write, poems were her favorite also. Preceded in death by her grandparents, Dorothy and Thomas Commander; her father, Sammie Lee Jones; a brother, Reggie Commander; a nephew, Marquis Davis and a niece, Royalty McLeod. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, David Wahid of Mayesville, S. C.; her mother, Elouise Commander of Sumter, S. C.; eight sisters, Dianne Commander, Marie Titus Davis, Tarkeisha Commander, Whitney Williams, Patricia Leneau, all of Sumter, S. C., Janie (Dealous) Rush and Sarah James of Bishopville, S. C. and Sandra Wells of Columbia, S. C.; five brothers, Terry (Wendy) Clark, Archie Titus, Datrick Gipson, all of Sumter, S. C., Charles Wells of Elliott, S. C. and Willie Lee Josey of Forest, MS; six children, Shanquetta Commander, Shanetta Commander, Destiny Commander, Shamecca Wahid, Tahkim Wahid, Shamkhail Wahid, all of Sumter, S. C.; seven grandchildren; six aunts; two uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home 3310 South Darlington Highway, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, March 9, 2024 Unionville A. M. E. Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, with the Rev. Jerome McCray, Pastor, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m. Burial will be in the Unionville A. M. E. Church Yard Cemetery, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville.
