George Rembert, Jr. was born on March 14, 1941, in Sumter SC, to the late George Rembert, Sr. and Rebecca Brailsford Rembert. God in His infinite wisdom called him from labor to reward on February 9, 2024. He was the second born of eight children. George was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Ebenezer High School, Class of 1961. George was united in Holy Matrimony to Bernice Jackson Rembert on July 3, 1966. To their union two children were born. George accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of the Joshua Baptist Church. George served his church faithfully until his health failed. He was a member of the Pastor’s Aide and the Homecoming Committee. He served as a trustee (former Chairman), usher, and choir member. He was dedicated and served with a willing heart and joyful spirit. George loved God, His Pastor, and His Church. George was employed by E. I. Dupont in Camden, South Carolina and retired in 1998 after 29 years of service. Shortly after retiring, he returned to Dupont and worked an additional two years. Although he was a hard-working man, he always took time to enjoy life. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and watching football games. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys and Clemson Tigers fan. George was known for wanting to look his best and could be counted on to be “sharp as a tack” every Sunday morning. He never met a stranger and would quickly engage those that he met in conversation. George leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving wife, Bernice; two loving children, George Derrick Rembert of Dalzell, and Sonja Rembert of Charlotte, NC; a niece whom he reared in the home as a daughter, Rachel (Jack) Wilson of St. Matthews; grandchildren, two reared in the home, Dante Linder and Dh’Estin Rembert and Kayla Wilson and Jack A. Wilson of St. Matthews; his sister, Mary Rembert of Orangeburg; two brothers, Ashby Rembert of Sumter, and James (Kitty) Rembert of Bronx, NY; a sister-in-law, Ernestine (Lucious) Pringle of Sumter; two brother-in-laws, James (Thomasina) Jackson and Robert Lee (Maxine) Jackson of Sumter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends (Louise Moore, Charlie Bradley, and James (Tena) Richardson), church family, neighbors, and beloved friends. In accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation from 2:00 – 6:00 p. m. at the home, 3025 Frierson Road, Dalzell. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon, Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis., Pastor and Eulogist. The Remains will be placed in the church at 11:00 am for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 11:20 a. m. Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Church Yard Cemetery.
